Peer review

Peer review is what makes a monograph a scientific product. At Licosia this work belongs to those with the competence to do it: each series has a scientific director and a scientific committee, and it is the series board — not the publisher — that governs the evaluation. The publisher guarantees the conditions: independence, confidentiality, traceability.

How evaluation works

• Who evaluates: the scientific board of the destination series; names and affiliations are published on each series page.
• Method: double-blind review — authors and referees remain mutually anonymous.
• Referees: qualified scholars selected by the series director; a third referee resolves conflicting opinions.
• Criteria: originality, methodological rigour, completeness of the critical apparatus, relevance to the scholarly community.
• Outcomes: accepted · accepted with minor revisions · major revisions required · rejected — always with motivations.
• Traceability: the anonymised review file is preserved and can be reconstructed ex post.

Independence

The decision to publish depends exclusively on the outcome of the review. No fee can influence it: nobody pays for evaluation, and any publication fee is discussed only after the review, on a separate — commercial — level. Our transparency policy →
